flapper valve
Hinged flow controller
A flapper valve is a hinged cover that allows flow in one direction only, swinging open under pressure from one side and sealing shut from the other.
The rubber flapper in a toilet tank is the most familiar example—it lifts to release water during flushing and drops back to seal the tank for refilling.
Flapper valves appear throughout plumbing, engines, and pumps wherever one-way flow is needed.
