firmament
Vault of heaven
The firmament is the sky or heavens, especially as a vast dome or vault arching over the earth.
The word appears in biblical and literary contexts: God made the firmament and divided the waters.
More loosely, a firmament is any sphere or realm: a star in the firmament of jazz piano.
The word carries a sense of permanence and grandeur.
