firing point

Where shooters stand

A firing point is a designated position from which a weapon is discharged, particularly in military contexts or at shooting ranges.

On a rifle range, shooters occupy numbered firing points arranged at set distances from targets.

In military usage, it may refer to any location from which fire is directed at an enemy, whether a prepared position or one chosen in the moment.

The term also appears in rocketry and pyrotechnics to indicate the location where ignition occurs.
