strike zone
Umpire's judgment area
The strike zone in baseball is the area over home plate through which a pitch must pass to be called a strike if the batter doesn't swing.
It extends roughly from the batter's knees to the midpoint of their torso.
Umpires interpret the zone with some variation, and a pitcher who can work the corners of the strike zone has a crucial advantage.
Figuratively, something in your strike zone falls within your area of competence or preference.
