ferricyanide

Blue pigment precursor

Ferricyanide is a chemical compound containing iron in its oxidized state, bonded to six cyanide groups.

The most common form is potassium ferricyanide, a bright red crystalline salt used in photography, blueprint making, and laboratory chemistry.

Despite containing cyanide groups, ferricyanide compounds are relatively stable and far less toxic than free cyanide.

Combined with ferrocyanide, it forms Prussian blue, a deep blue pigment historically important in art and dyeing.
