hexacyanoferrate
Prussian blue precursor
Hexacyanoferrate is a chemical compound containing iron bonded to six cyanide groups.
The two common forms are ferrocyanide (iron in the +2 state) and ferricyanide (iron in the +3 state).
Despite containing cyanide, these compounds are relatively nontoxic because the cyanide is tightly bound to the iron.
Prussian blue, a deep blue pigment, is a hexacyanoferrate compound.
