ethnonationalist
Ethnic purity proponent
An ethnonationalist believes that a nation should be defined by ethnic identity—shared ancestry, language, culture, or race—rather than civic principles or geographic borders.
The ideology holds that ethnic groups have the right to self-governance and that states should preserve ethnic homogeneity: ethnonationalist movements in Europe, ethnonationalist rhetoric about immigration.
The term usually carries negative connotations, associated with exclusionary politics and ethnic chauvinism.
