eternal light
Never-ending radiance
A lamp kept burning continuously in a synagogue, usually near the ark containing the Torah scrolls.
The eternal light (in Hebrew, *ner tamid*) symbolizes God's eternal presence and the permanence of the covenant.
The term also appears in broader religious and poetic contexts for any perpetual flame or divine illumination: May eternal light shine upon them.
