spiritual ascent
Rising toward enlightenment
Spiritual ascent is the idea of rising toward higher states of consciousness, moral development, or closeness to the divine.
The metaphor treats spiritual growth as upward movement—climbing a ladder, ascending a mountain, or progressing through stages toward enlightenment or union with God.
The mystic's spiritual ascent required years of contemplation and discipline.
The concept appears across religious traditions, from Neoplatonic philosophy to Sufi poetry to Christian mysticism.
