encamp

Set up quarters

To encamp is to set up camp, especially for a group: The army encamped along the river.

The word carries a formal or military tone—ordinary campers just camp, while soldiers, refugees, or large parties encamp.

An encampment is the resulting settlement, temporary by nature.
