ectopic pregnancy

Misplaced embryo attachment

An ectopic pregnancy is one in which the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, most commonly in a fallopian tube.

The embryo cannot survive, and the condition is dangerous—a ruptured ectopic pregnancy causes internal bleeding that can be fatal without emergency treatment.

Early symptoms include sharp pelvic pain and vaginal bleeding.
