cesarean section
Abdominal birth procedure
A cesarean section is a surgical procedure to deliver a baby through an incision in the mother's abdomen and uterus, rather than through the birth canal.
Often shortened to cesarean or C-section: She had an emergency cesarean section when labor stalled.
The procedure may be planned in advance or performed when complications arise during labor.
