ear-trumpet

Antique hearing aid

An ear-trumpet is a funnel-shaped device that was held to the ear to amplify sound for the hard of hearing, used before electronic hearing aids became available.

The wide end collected sound waves and channeled them through the narrowing tube into the ear canal: Great-aunt Mildred cupped her ear-trumpet toward the speaker.
