drug dogs
Narcotic-detecting hounds
Drug dogs are dogs trained to detect illegal substances by scent, used by law enforcement and customs officials to search vehicles, luggage, buildings, and people.
Also called detection dogs or sniffer dogs, they can identify narcotics hidden in locations humans couldn't easily search.
The drug dogs alerted on two suitcases at the airport.
Their handler interprets the dog's behavior—typically sitting or pawing—as indication that drugs are present.
