passport control
Entry verification station
Passport control is the checkpoint where officials verify travelers' identity documents when entering or leaving a country.
The term refers both to the physical location—typically at airports, seaports, and border crossings—and to the process itself: We waited in the passport control line for an hour.
Also called border control or immigration.
