novelization

Movie becomes book

A novelization is a novel adapted from a work in another medium—typically a film or television series.

Unlike novel adaptations that move from page to screen, novelizations reverse the process: The novelization of the movie came out the same week as the theatrical release.

They're often published as tie-in merchandise, expanding scenes or adding character depth unavailable in the original format.
