A rat rod is a style of hot rod that embraces a rough, unfinished aesthetic—primer paint, visible rust, exposed welds, and salvaged parts.
Unlike polished show cars, rat rods celebrate deliberate imperfection and working-class authenticity: He built his rat rod from a '32 Ford body and a junkyard engine.
The style emerged as a reaction against the high-dollar restoration scene.
