Downpipes are vertical pipes that carry rainwater from roof gutters down to ground level or into drains.
Also called downspouts in American English.
The word occasionally appears in automotive contexts for exhaust pipes that direct gases downward from the engine: The mechanic replaced the corroded downpipe.
