divans

Long armless seats

Divans are long, low sofas without backs or arms, often placed against a wall and sometimes used as beds.

The word comes from Persian, where it originally meant a council or court, then the cushioned bench where officials sat.

In English, divan occasionally appears in the older sense of a council chamber or court of justice, but the furniture meaning dominates: She stretched out on the divan with a book.
