Windsor chairs
Colonial American furniture
Windsor chairs are wooden chairs characterized by a solid carved seat into which spindles and legs are socketed.
The spindles form the back and sometimes extend to create armrests, while splayed legs provide stability.
Originating in 18th-century England around the Windsor area, they became popular in America where regional variations developed.
The porch was furnished with a row of Windsor chairs.
Their simple construction from turned parts made them affordable and durable.
