disenthronement
Stripping monarchical power
Disenthronement is the act of removing a monarch or ruler from their throne—a formal word for deposing or dethroning.
The term extends to any displacement from a position of dominance or supremacy: the disenthronement of Latin as the language of scholarship, the gradual disenthronement of the old guard.
