deposing
Toppling from power
Deposing is removing someone from a position of power, especially a monarch or head of state: The military succeeded in deposing the president.
In legal contexts, deposing means taking sworn testimony outside of court: The attorneys spent the morning deposing the witness.
Both senses involve bringing someone down—from a throne or to a chair to answer questions.
