dimers

Two-unit molecules

Dimers are molecules or molecular complexes formed when two identical or similar units bond together.

The term appears most often in chemistry and biochemistry: proteins may form dimers, and many biological processes depend on dimerization.

The receptor functions as a dimer.

A single unit is a monomer; larger assemblies are trimers, tetramers, and so on.
