destigmatization
Ending social disgrace
Destigmatization is the process of removing shame or social disapproval from something previously considered disgraceful.
The term appears most often in discussions of mental health, addiction, or marginalized identities: the destigmatization of depression, efforts toward the destigmatization of HIV.
The goal is typically to encourage people to seek help or speak openly without fear of judgment.
