degree centigrade

Metric heat measure

A degree centigrade is a unit of temperature on a scale where water freezes at zero and boils at one hundred under standard atmospheric pressure.

The term is now largely replaced by degree Celsius, which names the same unit: The forecast calls for highs around twenty degrees centigrade.

Centigrade persists in casual speech, especially among older speakers.
