anticyclones

Fair weather bringers

Anticyclones is the plural of anticyclone, a large-scale weather system in which air circulates around a center of high atmospheric pressure—clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere, counterclockwise in the Southern.

Anticyclones typically bring settled, dry weather: clear skies in summer, frost and fog in winter.

They move slowly and can dominate a region's weather for days.

The opposite of a cyclone, which circulates around low pressure.
