cuneiforms

Ancient wedge-shaped script

Cuneiforms are the wedge-shaped characters of ancient Mesopotamian writing systems, pressed into clay tablets with a stylus.

The term also refers to wedge-shaped bones in the foot—three small bones between the ankle and metatarsals.

In both cases, the defining feature is the tapered, wedge-like shape: cuneiform script, the medial cuneiform bone.
