creme fraiche

French cultured cream

Creme fraiche is a cultured cream product, thicker and tangier than regular cream but milder than sour cream.

It's used in French cooking and beyond as a finishing element for soups, sauces, and desserts.

Unlike sour cream, it won't curdle when heated: She dolloped creme fraiche over the berries.

Also spelled crème fraîche.
