crater lake
Volcanic basin water
A crater lake is a lake that forms in a volcanic crater or caldera, filling the depression with rainwater, groundwater, or melted snow.
Such lakes are often remarkably deep and clear: Crater Lake in Oregon is the deepest lake in the United States.
The term also applies to lakes in impact craters from meteorites.
