counterculturists
Mainstream society rejecters
Counterculturists are people who reject or oppose mainstream cultural values, norms, and institutions.
The term emerged from the 1960s counterculture movement but applies broadly to anyone actively resisting dominant social conventions: The counterculturists of the Beat Generation challenged postwar conformity.
Unlike mere nonconformists, counterculturists typically embrace alternative values as part of a collective identity or movement.
