counter-culture
Antiestablishment social movement
Counter-culture is a way of life that deliberately rejects mainstream society's values and norms.
The term emerged in the 1960s to describe youth movements opposing conventional attitudes toward drugs, sexuality, politics, and consumerism: the hippie counterculture, counterculture icons like Timothy Leary.
Any generation may produce its own counter-culture in reaction to prevailing standards.
