antiestablishment
Opposing the system
Antiestablishment describes opposition to the dominant power structures in society—government, corporations, traditional institutions.
The term emerged from 1960s counterculture but applies broadly to anyone who challenges entrenched authority: an antiestablishment candidate, antiestablishment punk rock.
Often carries connotations of outsider credibility or rebellious authenticity.
