cornhusker

Removes maize coverings

A cornhusker is a person or machine that removes the husks from ears of corn.

Before mechanization, cornhusking was labor-intensive work done by hand, often as a communal activity.

The term is most associated with Nebraska, whose residents are called Cornhuskers, and whose state university athletic teams bear the name.

The old cornhusker could strip an ear in seconds.
