Platte
Great Plains waterway
Platte is a river system in the central United States, formed by the confluence of the North Platte and South Platte rivers in Nebraska.
The Platte was a crucial landmark along the Oregon Trail, its broad, shallow waters earning descriptions as "a mile wide and an inch deep." The name comes from French for flat. (Lowercase platte is an archaic or dialectal word for flat or a flat plate.)
