corn husk
Maize kernel covering
The corn husk is the leafy outer covering that surrounds an ear of corn.
Husks are stripped away before eating fresh corn but have uses of their own—dried husks wrap tamales and can be woven into dolls, mats, or decorations.
To shuck corn is to remove its husk.
We saved the corn husks for making tamales.
