cartridge case
Ammunition's metal shell
A cartridge case is the metal or plastic container that holds the components of a firearm cartridge—primer, propellant, and projectile.
After firing, the spent case is ejected and can often be reloaded.
Forensic investigators examine cartridge cases for markings that identify the weapon used: Police found three cartridge cases at the scene.
