close off

Shut down entry

To close off is to block access or seal something from entry or exit: Police closed off the street after the accident.

It also means to isolate or make unavailable: The renovation closed off the east wing for months.

Figuratively, to close yourself off is to become emotionally withdrawn or unreceptive: After the divorce, he closed himself off from everyone.
