contentions
Points of disagreement
Contentions are points argued in a debate or dispute—the claims each side puts forward: The prosecution's main contention was that the defendant had motive.
The word also names the state of heated disagreement itself: The issue has been a source of contention for years.
Something in contention is being competed for or remains unresolved.
