cis-female

Non-transgender woman

A cis-female is a woman whose gender identity matches the female sex assigned at birth—the prefix *cis-* (Latin for "on the same side") contrasting with *trans-*.

The term emerged from gender studies and LGBTQ discourse to name what had previously been the unmarked category: Most participants in the study were cis-female.

Also written *cis female* or *cisfemale*.

See also *cisgender*.
