chuckwagon

Mobile ranch kitchen

A chuckwagon is a horse-drawn wagon equipped as a mobile kitchen, used to feed cowboys and ranch hands on cattle drives and roundups.

The rear of the wagon featured a hinged lid that dropped down to form a work surface, with compartments holding cooking supplies and provisions.

The term now often refers to cookouts or outdoor dining with a Western theme: chuckwagon supper, chuckwagon barbecue.
