chop saw

Pivoting blade tool

A chop saw is a power tool with a circular blade mounted on a hinged arm that swings down to cut material placed on a fixed base.

Used primarily for making straight crosscuts in lumber, metal, or masonry, depending on the blade.

The name comes from the chopping motion of the cut.

Also called a cutoff saw or abrasive saw when fitted with an abrasive disc for cutting metal.
