charades
Silent acting game
Charades is a parlor game where players act out words or phrases without speaking while teammates guess.
One person pantomimes while others call out guesses until someone gets it right.
The word also describes an obvious pretense or absurd facade: The trial was a charades—the verdict was decided before it began.
The singular charade usually carries this figurative sense of empty show.
