cardboard cutout
Life-size paper person
A cardboard cutout is a flat figure—usually life-sized—made of stiff paperboard, often depicting a celebrity or character for display at events or in stores.
Figuratively, a cardboard cutout is a person or character lacking depth or dimension: The villain was a cardboard cutout with no real motivation.
The phrase suggests something two-dimensional where three dimensions are expected.
