calved

Bore young bovine

Calved is the past tense of calve.

A cow or other bovine calves when it gives birth: The heifer calved in early spring.

Glaciers and icebergs also calve when large chunks break off and fall into the water: We watched the glacier calve into the sea.

Both senses involve something massive producing a smaller version of itself.
