off duty
Free from shifts
Off duty describes someone not currently working or required to perform their job responsibilities.
The phrase applies especially to police officers, soldiers, medical personnel, and others whose roles don't end at a fixed hour: An off-duty cop intervened in the robbery.
The hyphenated form functions as an adjective before nouns: off-duty hours, off-duty conduct.
