calcimining

Coating with whitewash

Calcimining is coating walls or ceilings with calcimine—a white or tinted wash made from water, glue, and whiting (powite calcium carbonate).

The technique was common for interior decoration before modern latex paints: The old plaster had been calcimined so many times it was flaking.

Also spelled kalsomining.
