cable ferry

Tethered river transport

A cable ferry is a boat that crosses a body of water by pulling itself along a fixed cable or chain stretched between two points.

Unlike conventional ferries that navigate freely, cable ferries follow a set path and cannot drift off course: The cable ferry shuttles cars across the river every fifteen minutes.
