bullrushes

Tall marsh plants

Bullrushes are tall wetland plants that grow in marshes, shallow water, and along riverbanks.

The term applies loosely to several reed-like plants with long cylindrical stalks, including cattails and certain sedges.

In the biblical account, the infant Moses was hidden among bullrushes in a basket.

Also spelled bulrushes.
