team mascot
Costumed sideline performer
A team mascot is a costumed character, animal, or symbolic figure representing a sports team or organization.
Mascots appear at games to entertain crowds, lead cheers, and embody team spirit: The team mascot did backflips after every touchdown.
School and professional teams alike maintain mascots as part of their identity—the Philadelphia Eagles have Swoop, universities have costumed students in animal suits.
Some mascots become beloved figures in their own right.
