Australian Shepherd
American-bred herding dog
Australian Shepherd # A medium-sized herding dog with a merle or solid coat, known for intelligence, agility, and high energy.
Despite the name, the breed developed in the western United States, likely from dogs that accompanied Basque shepherds who had spent time in Australia.
Australian Shepherds excel at herding livestock and dog sports, but their work drive makes them demanding pets for inactive owners.
Often shortened to Aussie.
